Members of the Spennymoor Veterans Breakfast Club brought donations for other veterans to their November breakfast meet up.
The donations, which include of toiletries to items of clothing, was part of the Homeless Veterans Christmas Shoebox Appeal that had been organised by Spennymoor resident and British Army veteran, Paul Ramparsad.
Paul, who has served in the army for 22 years, has been visiting veterans at Christmas who are either homeless or don’t have much to their name, at their homeless veterans accommodation in Sacriston to make sure they are okay during the festive period.
Speaking of why he started his Veterans Christmas Shoebox Appeal, Paul said, “After serving in the army myself, it is not nice to see fellow veterans fall on hard times.
“Some, if not all of these veterans, have served in wars and have gone through hell and back, so to show them that people are grateful for what they’ve done for their country, I started putting a few items in a shoebox as a Christmas gift and it has gone on from there.
I would like to thank members of the Spennymoor Veterans Breakfast Club for their kind donations, which will be gratefully received by the veterans.”
Members of the Spennymoor Veterans Breakfast Club also voted in favour to give a £50 cash donation from their funds to go towards purchasing additional items that are required.
