One of the coaches operated by Shildon Community Bus recently took part in filming to publicise the work of Age UK County Durham, part of the national Age UK charitable organisation.
The charity provides a wide range of life improving activities for the elderly and Age UK County Durham is just one of the very many groups which take advantage of Shildon Community Bus.
Harriett Gibbon, Chief Executive of Age UK County Durham said, “We are very concerned that many older people find themselves increasingly lonely and isolated because they cannot get out of the house. Using Shildon Community Bus means that we have a cost effective way to bring older people together to get out and about, make friends and socialise through our ‘Come Eat Together’ project. We use the bus for our two regular shopping clubs which help older people access healthy food and share the bargains.”
A spokesperson for Shildon Community Bus said, “Once a group is registered with Shildon Community Bus (one of which has disability facilities) a bus can be hired for almost any journey.
“As a voluntary organisation in receipt of grants we are able to provide a service which is competitively priced. We would like to thank Durham County Council Community Transport and County Durham Community Foundation for recent awards.
