This year’s Shildon poppy appeal badges are now on sale across the town.
The badges can be bought at: Shildon Town Council offices, Shildon Railway Institute, All Cyced Up, The Royal George, Old Shildon Club, Elm Road Club, The King William, The Queen’s Head, The BR, The Red Lion, Shildon Civic Hall, Dollheads Hairdressers, and Dawn Angela Jones in Byerley Road.
Profits go to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and the donation handover will be posted on social media once it is made.
“This is the ninth year of the Shildon Charity Poppy Appeal Badge – or the tenth if the VE Day badge is included – and we are overwhelmed at the enthusiasm and support from the Shildon community and surrounding areas,” said badge designer and campaign organiser, Mark Arnott.
“We are also extremely grateful to those who are no longer in Shildon but still buy their “home town badges” each year,” he added. “We also post them nationwide and internationally each year. If you would like yours posting please let us know.”
I am a former Shildonian, I lived in Drybourne Avenue before leaving in 1977 to join the RAF. My Dad was George Taylor, the better half of the Gardner & Taylor Decorating partnership which used to occupy the Shildon Alive building. I served 34 years in the RAF as a Navigator, primarily on Search & Rescue Wessex helicopters in UK and in Cyprus. I also managed a 6 month tour in Afghanistan before retiring in 2011.
