Last week, Durham Police and Crime Commissioner, Joy Allen, met with Ferryhill School student leaders to launch the Platinum Commissioners Challenge designed to raise awareness and teach the skills to help keep young people and their families and friends to be safer and more resilient to cyber crime.
Glenys from Approach Too said: “Smartphones, computers and the internet are such a fundamental part of modern life it’s difficult to imagine how we’d function without them.
“From online banking and shopping, to email and social media, it’s more important than ever to prevent cyber criminals getting access to our online accounts, data, and devices.
“The Commissioner’s Challenge highlights simple tasks which can help young people stay safe and secure online.”
Commissioner Allen also met with some of Ferryhill’s new Ambassadors for Community Change.
She spoke to the Ambassadors about her role and how she can support them in their role to find out the views of other children and young people and how together, they can bring about positive meaningful change to Ferryhill.
Amongst other things, the Ambassadors discussed information collected from their latest Crime Survey, how this compares to information collected a few years ago and how they can together identify any priorities.
