Members fund two causes for the price of one

In one of his final acts as a local councillor, former Ferryhill Town Councillor, Stephen Bowron, alongside Cllr Christine Woods, was able to distribute £300 of their Members Initiative Fund to Royal British Legion member, Andy Denholm to fulfil an idea of placing Tommy statues on the graves of former members of the military who lost their lives in battle or who had served in the armed forces.

The funding helped ensure the statues were available to mark 67 graves in time for the D-Day commemorations.

While the funding was initially to be used to pay for the manufacture of the Tommies, BTS Fabrications, who made the figures, requested the funds instead go towards other charitable causes. To that end, Cllrs Bowron and Woods chose instead to donate the funds to Ferryhill foodbank.
