Dear Editor,
Now that the elections are over and the democratic process has been observed and vindicated, I wanted to announce my retirement from local politics.
There comes a time when the older athletes have to step aside to let younger ones past. This is my time.
I wanted to thank those people who have supported me over the years, enabling me to serve as both county and town councillor, I hope I haven’t disappointed. To those who I have disagreed with, that’s life, get over it.
The political arena is changing fast, let’s hope the town council doesn’t revert to past form by filling vacancies with those who only know how to say “yes”. A golden opportunity presents itself if you’re brave enough to take it.
Anyway, thank you, and although I’m still going to be loosely involved, my councillor days are over. I’m looking forward to a quieter time.
Best wishes to you all friend and foe alike, and goodbye.
Kind regards,
Joe Makepeace, Ferryhill
