Spennymoor Town FC joined the wider football family in supporting If U Care Share’s Inside Out campaign during the weekend’s action at the Brewery Field.
Inside Out is an annual drive to spark conversations and highlight the importance of talking – bringing what’s on the inside, out. In participating in the activity over the weekend, Moors joined the bid to help spread a life-saving message to end the stigma around talking about suicide and prevent further unnecessary deaths.
The men’s first team all wore the campaign’s specially designed t-shirts during the warm-up ahead of their 2-0 victory over Hereford in National League North on Saturday. And Moors Ladies also gave a nod to the charity and its messaging by wearing their warm-up t-shirts ‘inside out’ to further support the aims of the campaign on Sunday, which itself was also World Suicide Prevention Day.
“We were extremely proud to support this campaign across the entire club over the weekend,” explained Moors’ Managing Director, Ian Geldard. “Suicide sadly remains a leading cause of death in men under 50 and the work that If U Care Share do, particularly around the Inside Out campaign, is invaluable in the drive to save lives. Hopefully, the exposure our Men and Women players gave to the drive can have an impact that makes a difference in our region and beyond.”
Meanwhile, on the pitch, both the men and ladies sides recorded victories last weekend, with the men climbing to fourth in the National League North table with a 2-0 win over Hereford at the Brewery Field. Joshua Popoola and Will Harris were on target in the 28th and 88th minutes respectively in front of a crowd of 1,210.
The ladies recorded a somewhat more dramatic win in their home game against Hull United on Sunday when they came from 0-2 down to snatch all three points in their first home game of the season. Billy Shackleton’s side were staring down the barrel of defeat when they fell two behind, but Autumn Colledge’s header gave them hope before half time and Alice Welch-Davison netted twice during a crazy period of injury-time to secure an astonishing 3-2 victory.
This weekend sees the men kick off their FA Cup campaign at the Brewery Field where Merseyside outfit, Marine will be the visitors in a Second Round Qualifying tie at the usual 3pm kick-off time. Season ticket holders are reminded that FA Cup ties are not included in their package so all supporters will need to buy their tickets for the game.
The ladies, meanwhile will travel to Redcar Town on Sunday hoping to keep up their 100% start to the campaign.
