Ferryhill Ambassadors for Community Change are supporting the RSPCA’s #bangoutoforder campaign to make fireworks less frightening for animals.
Thousands of pets, horses, livestock and wildlife are affected by fireworks. Many hurt themselves in reaction to the noise and flashes or, in the worst cases, it can cause death. Five minutes of fireworks can affect a pet for a life time.
Fireworks have an impact on owners and their animals, all desperate for the unpredictability of fireworks to stop. Organised local events will generally receive prior notice through advertising and word of mouth. The timings for these events are also arranged within a timeframe to attract families.
Glenys from Approach Too said: “We are asking people to enjoy fireworks at Ferryhill Town Council’s organised display as sadly, private displays in gardens are much more unpredictable and harder to regulate.”
It becomes impossible for neighbours to prepare their pets, horses and livestock properly. In a recent survey the RSPCA found:
- 68% were animals impacted by private at-home backyard displays.
- 94% didn’t have prior notice of fireworks from neighbours nearby.
- 19% were animals in distress as a result of antisocial behaviour.
The Cleves Cross Ambassadors are asking all residents: “Lets look after each other, please be kind and considerate over the Firework season.”
