Earlier this term, Dean Bank Primary & Nursery School opened its doors beyond the school day with their very own ‘Wraparound Care’ for pupils to access at the school.
The Breakfast club starts at 8am with the After School club running until 6pm.
By offering this extended childcare provision the school hopes to support parents and carers with childcare so that they can get to work or have time for various other commitments as required.
The club is run by experienced, qualified staff who have worked tirelessly over the last few months to set up the provision for all children in school.
Headteacher Mr Brown said: “It is fantastic to finally have this exciting new provision available at Dean Bank for our families to access.
“We are very grateful to Durham County Council for their support in setting up this venture through a government grant which means we have been able to fully resource and set up our wraparound care.
“The staff have been incredible and I am so proud of what we have achieved in a short time.”
Pupils from the Reception through to Year 6 can all access the additional childcare on offer.
Prices have been kept low to support families, from as little as £2.50 for Breakfast Club and only £5 for After school.
Wrapround Care staff Grace and Kelly added: “It’s lovely to see pupils from Reception all the way through to Year 6 playing together.
“Some pupils were worried at first if they would like it or not, but once they’ve been, they don’t want to go home!”
“Having pupils of different ages has been the best part, watching them, eat their snack together and play.
“They have helped us to prepare their snack on an evening and they all enjoy trying different foods.”
Parents have praised the school for providing the childcare option for pupils and are keen to see how it develops over the rest of the year.
