Despite the weekend’s inclement weather, Chilton had the opportunity to showcase its treasured heritage asset, the Miner’s Welfare Recreation Pavilion Park, to civic parties from Durham, Ferryhill, Gateshead, Great Aycliffe, Shildon, Spennymoor and South Tyneside.
Many had never visited Chilton previously and were extremely impressed with “the Park.”
The “Mayor at Home” event is one of the traditional civic duties designed to promote the town to other civic parties from across the region as well as celebrating Chilton’s impressive local heritage and raising funds for the Mayor’s chosen charities.
“We were joined by local dignitaries and former Mayors, representatives from Chilton Juniors Football Club, Chilton and Windlestone 150 years and friends from the Rotary Club of Great Aycliffe,” said Chilton Mayor, Cllr Sue Reece.
“Helping to welcome our guests to Chilton were fellow Chilton Town Councillors and Miners Welfare Trustees, the Town Clerk and most importantly the volunteers who work hard to the keep the grounds looking amazing for the people of Chilton and those who gave their time on the day to help and support the event.
“Also thank you to the Auckland & Chilton Croquet Club who were on standby for a demonstration match if the rain stopped, which it didn’t.
“Despite the ‘summer weather’ we had a great time and raised £220 from the raffle. Sincere thank you to everyone who came along.”
