SUMMARY:Free Guided Walk - Seaham
DESCRIPTION:A popular series of guided walks in a County Durham coastal town has returned.\n\n\n\nFollowing the success of last year’s programme\, Durham County Council will once again be offering free walking tours around Seaham and the town’s coastline.\n\n\n\nStarting at Seaham Hall Beach car park and ending at Seaham Marina\, walkers will take a stroll through the town to hear about its fascinating history while enjoying the views of the heritage coastline.\n\n\n\nThe guided walks will take place at 1pm on:\n\n\n\n· Saturday 8 June\n\n\n\n· Thursday 18 July\n\n\n\n· Thursday 8 August\n\n\n\n· Saturday 24 August\n\n\n\nCllr Elizabeth Scott\, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for economy and partnerships\, said: “After proving popular with walkers last year\, we are excited to be bringing back our free guided walks in Seaham. The tours are a perfect opportunity to take an easy walk and enjoy the stunning coastline that we have\, while also learning about the town’s fascinating history. It’s also a great chance to get some fresh air\, light exercise\, and socialise with like-minded people. We hope to see you there.”\n\n\n\nThe guided walks take approximately two hours and are buggy and dog friendly. They will be conducted by a blue badge guide who is a member of the Guild of British Tourist Guides.\n\n\n\nThe walks are being delivered as part of the council’s Seaham Townscape Heritage Project\, a £1.6m scheme aimed at enhancing Seaham’s historic town centre supported by funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund\, made possible thanks to National Lottery players.\n\n\n\nFor more information about the walks\, or to book a place\, email SeahamTownscapeHeritage[@]durham[.]gov[.]uk or call either 07795 304980 or 07818 510314.

SUMMARY:Shildon Railway Institute Volunteer Event
DESCRIPTION:Shildon Railway Institute is to hold a special briefing event for potential new volunteers looking to be part of something special in the near future.\n\n \n\nThe event will be held at 12 noon on Saturday 17 August in the Institute’s main hall. It’s an opportunity to hear how the Institute is progressing\, how your skills might prove a good fit for being part of Team Stute\, and putting forward some of your own ideas on what could happen next.\n\n \n\nSince changing its constitution to become a Community Benefit Society last year the historic organisation has been making progress on looking into how it could use its potential better serve more people of all ages across Shildon in the future\, and has also made positive progress on finding support for that new approach.\n\n \n\nHowever despite beginning to turn corners on that mission the Stute has found itself a little short on resource needed to do some exciting new things\, mainly as a consequence of former volunteers either moving away or stepping up to take more responsibility as part of the unpaid committee.\n\n \n\nA spokesperson for the Stute said\, “Anyone is welcome\, young or old\, and tea\, coffee and soft drinks will be provided.”\n\n \n\nThey continued\, “Across our town people want good things to happen\, but it’s only ever the commitment of good people that makes those good things happen. Our current family of volunteers are amazing – it simply needs to grow.\n\n \n\n“The Institute has a real chance of a bright future now\, but we have to grasp that and own it.”\n\n \n\nMore details on the need for volunteers\, and the event on Sat 17th\, are on the Institute’s website\, www.shildonrailway.institute.
