SUMMARY:Shildon Wagon Works Reunion
DESCRIPTION:From midday on Sunday October 8th\, Shildon Railway Institute will be hosting a ‘Works’\nreunion; nothing formal\, just a good old fashioned get together. Ex Works employees\,\nfriends and families are invited for a catch up\, a chance to swap stories of their time at\nShildon Shops and to raise a glass to absent friends. \nThe last reunion in 2019 marked the 35th anniversary of the Works closure and a grand\nday was had by all. Attendees enjoyed an exhibition of memorabilia and premier showing\nof a specially commissioned film ‘The Full Works’\, but most of all\, people enjoyed the\nopportunity to get together and share memories. Many suggested an annual reunion\,\nafter all none of us are getting any younger\, but unfortunately covid came along and\nderailed things somewhat. \nJune 2024 will mark the 40th anniversary of the Works closure and we are keenly aware\nthat we are losing more friends and colleagues with every year that passes. Therefore it\nfeels timely to host a social event this year\, as a precursor to the big anniversary. \nIf you have an amusing or interesting story write it down to share on the memory wall\nWe’d like to use the opportunity of next month’s get together to canvass opinion on how\nyou’d like us to mark the 40th anniversary so that we can start planning. \nMembers may bring along two guest and all must sign in.
